Chester’s city centre will be transported back in time when costumed characters riding historic bikes and trikes take to the streets on Tuesday 23 June. This grand parade of cycling through the ages is all part of the exciting build up to the Tour Series cycling race that will be taking place on the same evening.
The crowds awaiting the main event will be able to enjoy a festival atmosphere and cycling celebrations from 5.30pm. The cycling through the ages parade will see Penny Farthings, trikes, old racing bikes, unicycles, hybrid bikes and many more feats of cycling engineering ridden by members of the community, all dressed in costumes to match their machines.
Following this snapshot of cycling’s history, many more cyclists will take to the streets to celebrate how we cycle for work and for pleasure.
From families of cyclists and day trippers to Community Safety Officers, Police and Paramedic Cycle Response units, visitors to the event will see what a wide range of activities bikes are used for. Cycle couriers will weave their speedy way through the traffic and there will even be onion and flower sellers promoting their wares on two wheels.
