Alice Barnes stormed to victory in the opening round of the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series in Redditch, heading home a pair of 2016 Olympic Gold medalists in Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker.

The Drops rider headed clear of a select group mid-race, and wasn’t seen again, powering to victory by 40-seconds over the chasing duo.

Victory helped the Drops team into the red Matrix Fitness jerseys as Series leaders after Round One, with a slender one point advantage over Team WNT of Archibald, as Drops and WNT riders locked out six of the top seven spots, barring third placed Barker.

Alice Barnes also took home the new look Eisberg Sprints Jersey and won the first ever Brother Fastest Lap award in the women’s Series, to complete a landslide of victories for her and her Drops team.

Highlights of the opening Matrix Fitness GP Series event will be shown on ITV4 at 7pm on Wednesday 10th May alongside The Tour Series action.

Round Two of the Series takes place in Stoke-on-Trent on Thursday 11th May, with the race getting underway at 6pm on the city centre circuit.
