Riders in the women’s Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series will this year have the chance to fight for the Brother UK Fastest Lap, as the competition is expanded to cover both the men and women’s Tour Series events. The Fastest Lap competition has been a part of the men’s Tour Series races for the past three seasons, but 2017 will mark the first time that the riders in the women’s Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series have had the opportunity to battle for the same honours. The Brother UK Fastest Lap award is awarded to the rider recording the fastest racing lap at each round of The Tour Series during May.

Phil Jones MBE, Managing Director of Brother UK, commented: “We’re delighted to be back for our second year with the Tour Series as print, imaging and results partner.  2016 saw some phenomenal racing and big crowds turning out at each round to witness some of the country’s best male and female riders battle it out on the city centre circuits.  We’re all about results as a business and it makes sense for us to be backing this highly competitive, series of races where team performance really counts.”

It won’t just be the professionals racing for honours from Brother UK either, as the highly successful Brother UK Corporate Grand Prix takes place at Round Four at Wembley Park on Tuesday 16th May.

Riders from over 10 corporate squads will compete on a 1.5-kilometre circuit at Wembley Park, currently undergoing a landmark regeneration, which will take them around the concourse of Wembley Stadium and Olympic Way, known to fans the world over as Wembley Way.

The Brother UK Corporate Grand Prix has been held annually at a Tour Series venue since 2010 with previous winners including Barclays and Thomson Reuters.  You can watch highlights of last year’s event by clicking here.

SunSport Velo team captain, Lizzie Banks commented: “As a team we are thrilled to have Brother on-board and supporting us this year. It’s been great to witness their commitment to supporting men’s and women’s teams with equal parity and the move to sponsor both the men’s and women’s fastest laps in the Tour Series and Matrix GP Series is another great example of this.”

Teammate Gabriella Nordin added: “I’ve always loved the idea of the fastest lap and as a team we’re really excited to hear Brother will be expanding it this year to include the women’s Matrix Fitness GP Series.”

Speaking on the Fastest Lap competition, Bike Channel Canyon’s Chris Opie said: “I have a few fastest lap trophies and it has been a great addition to the Tour Series. There is no guarantee who is going to win it and it really adds an extra dimension to the whole occasion.”

Bike Channel Canyon’s Rory Townsend, pictured below collecting the honours from Brother UK Managing Director Phil Jones MBE in 2016, commented: “The Tour Series is all about action-packed racing and the Fastest Lap really gives us the chance to go all out during each round.” Adding to this, teammate Jack Pullar said: “The Fastest Lap usually comes on the final lap for the line. No-one holds back. You have to be on a good day to get it mid race!”
