The return of the Sportsbreaks.com Tour Series, Britain’s leading cycle race series, to London is now less than a week away.

Round six of this year’s event will headline the inaugural Barking BikeFest on Saturday 21 May, marking the series’ first round in the capital since 2018.

Expected to be one of the quickest rounds in series history, Britain’s leading men’s and women’s teams will battle it out around a 1.2-kilometre circuit centered around the historic Abbey Green.

Racegoers can expect two fascinating races in Barking, given the round is the penultimate event of the 2022 series. Will Wiv – SunGod and Pro-Noctis – Rotor – Redchilli Bikes p/b Heidi Kjeldsen, the current men’s and women’s leaders respectively, retain their positions atop the standings after the hour-long races?

The likes of Great Britain track stars Megan Barker and Charlie Tanfield, plus British circuit race champion Jo Tindley, are all expected to compete. Several London-based teams will join them on the start line, including Team Brother UK – LDN and AWOL O’Shea in the women’s race, while TEKKERZ will be hoping for a strong result on home roads in the men’s event.

In a new-for-2022 innovation that showcases the series’ support for gender equality in sport, the women’s race (7:30pm) will follow the men’s event (5:30pm). To celebrate this Councillor Darren Rodwell, leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, will present the winner of the women’s race with the Mary Wollstonecraft Cup in honour of the pioneering feminist who once lived in the borough.
