The Cycle Show, the UK’s largest and longest-running cycling exhibition, and the Tour Series, the country’s leading criterium race series, have come together to officially launch the 2022 series at the Cycle Show, which returns to London this month at Alexandra Palace (Friday 22 – Sunday 24 April).

The launch event will see riders from participating teams across both female and male race series take to the stage to discuss this year’s series and competition.

Launched in 2009, Sweetspot’s Tour Series returns to its usual May date after having been rescheduled to August last year due to the pandemic. The racing brings together Britain’s best female and male riders to take on a fast, action-packed series of racing up and down the country, with each race based on circuits of around 1km in length for approximately one-hour of racing.

The competing teams in this year’s Tour Series will be headlined by defending champions Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling and CAMS Basso, with fellow UCI teams AWOL O’Shea, Saint Piran, Torelli – Cayman Islands – Scimitar, TRINITY Racing, and Wiv SunGod all among the squads set to appear.

The 2022 Tour Series gets underway in Guisborough on Monday 2 May before coming to a climax 19 days later in Barking on Saturday 21 May after six rounds of fast and furious racing. The race will visit six different town and city centres, including Galashiels (Wednesday 4 May), Sunderland (Tuesday 10 May), Stranraer (Thursday 12 May) and Clacton-on-Sea (Thursday 19 May).

Mick Bennett, Tour Series race director, said: “Each year we look to bring the Tour Series to as many fans of cycling as possible to share  the excitement our races deliver, so to be able to showcase this to the visitors of the UK’s largest cycling exhibition under two weeks before the action gets underway is a great fit for us.”

Chris Holman, Cycle Show event director, said: “The Cycle Show attracts an enviable list of star names from cycling’s past and present and it’s great to add the who’s who of British domestic race teams to this showcase this year.”
