While the JLT Condor presented by Mavic team may not have got the team win in Edinburgh, the men in black did come away with their third individual win of the 2016 Pearl Izumi Tour Series, and Graham Briggs his fifth career victory in the Series.

The Edinburgh win is added to Barrow (2014), Colchester (2012), Peterborough (2011) and Milton Keynes (2009) to draw him level with team manager Dean Downing on five wins, the third member of the current JLT Condor team to have five or more wins.

“I was looking at the climbs coming in as we were sat on the start line and I was rubbing my hands really.  I was biding my time really in that first 20-minutes, we had a few mishaps but it was nice to get my hands in the air,” said Briggs afterwards.

“I looked behind me a few times but I just wanted to concentrate on looking ahead at the race and not make any mistakes myself.  I didn’t have any slips out there, so it was good to get in front, put my head down and get the win.”

Briggs joins teammates Chris Lawless and Jon Mould in taking individual wins while wearing the red and white team leader’s jersey, something he clearly enjoyed.

“Really nice.  I knew we had to keep pushing all of the way to the line for the time, as it’s all about the overall team victory.

“It’s just nice to get the win, but it’s all about the team really so it’s just trying to consolidate the lead really.”

Looking ahead to the next events, in Redditch (Thursday 26 May) and Aberystwyth (Friday 27 May), Briggs had one wish, which may not prove too popular with spectators or organisers!

“I just hope it’s wet!  They’re really good courses for our team.  John’s [Team Manager John Herety] put a super squad together over the Winter for the Tour Series and we’ve showed that so far, so it’s just a case of keep pushing on and trying to keep that lead.”

The elite men’s race gets underway at 1930 in Redditch on Thursday evening.  Before that Round Two of the women’s Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series takes place at 1800.
