History will be made in this year’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series, the unique team based, televised race Series which gets its eighth season underway at Ramsey on the Isle of Man on Thursday.

Whichever team comes out on top at the final round in Portsmouth after the five weeks of competition will be history makers, one way or the other.

Last year’s Champions Madison Genesis will be hoping to defend their title, and if they do that they would become the first team to win back-to-back Tour Series titles.

Aiming to take the fight to them will be the JLT Condor presented by Mavic team, who should they come out on top after the ten events would become the first team to claim a hat trick of titles, having won overall in 2011 and 2014.

While should the title go to any of NFTO, Pedal Heaven, Team Raleigh GAC or Team WIGGINS it would be their first overall success, adding their names to the six other squads who have come out on top in the hotly contested  Series in previous editions.

Madison Genesis team manager David Povall could also make history should his team defend their title, as he would become only the second manager to have won the Series twice with different teams.  Keith Lambert is the only other manager to hold that distinction having been at the helm of the first two winning teams in 2009 and 2010.

“It is fantastic to contest the 2016 Pearl Izumi Tour Series, once again taking top level cycling around the country and on ITV4,” said Madison Genesis manager David Povall.

“As defending champions we know the task ahead of us is a hard one and we are there as a target for the other teams, but we look forward to five weeks of tough, and hopefully for Madison Genesis, successful, competition.”

The JLT Condor team will also be aiming to pick up their 20th Tour Series team win, heading into the 2016 Series on 19 victories from the previous seven editions.  Commenting on the Series, Dean Downing, a Champion in 2011 who will manage the JLT Condor squad over the coming five weeks said;

"John Herety has put a strong squad together for the 2016 Pearl Izumi Tour Series, I'd like to say the aim of the team is to go out there and have fun at all rounds, but that wouldn't be true. We are here to WIN. Personally, it's my first season as a DS on the Pearl Izumi Tour Series, so I'm excited and nervous. I'm looking forward to shouting move up at all the riders!”

The Pearl Izumi Tour Series begins on Thursday 12 May at Ramsey on the Isle of Man, which will be the 70th Tour Series event to have been held since the Series’ incarnation in 2009.

Teams will contest an opening two-lap Team Time Trial around Mooragh Park from 1500 with all five riders competing, before the first circuit race of the Series at 1930.

The six full season teams, all of whom are UCI Continental level in 2016, will be joined by an Isle of Man guest team comprising of island based riders who will be keen to impress on home roads.

In between the two elite events, spectators can look forward to seeing the next generation of Mark Cavendish’s with the Isle of Man Cyclefest Stars of Tomorrow Youth Races on the same Mooragh Park circuit.

Highlights of every round of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series will be shown on ITV4, beginning with the Isle of Man event which will be screened on Monday 16 May at 1900 with a repeat the following day at 1300.  Programmes will also be available on demand via the ITV Player.
