More than 150 children from across Stevenage have taken part in a completion to design the flags that will get the races underway when Stevenage holds the final rounds of The Tour Series on Bank Holiday Monday 29th May.

It will be the second time that The Tour Series, Britain’s leading televised cycle race series, has visited Stevenage building on the success of last year’s event, with 2016 Olympic Champions Ed Clancy and Katie Archibald among the riders due to take part.
The event will kick start the Stevenage Cycling Festival, which runs until August with fun and educational opportunities for all the family, including led rides, skills courses and social rides.
The Mayor of Stevenage and a representative from the Stevenage Arts Guild judged the winning designs, which came from Longmeadow Primary School.
Stevenage Mayor, Cllr Pam Stuart said: “Congratulations to the students from Longmeadow School for their winning flag designs. I’m sure all the riders will be impressed by their designs when they’re waved off on the start line. The Tour Series promises to be a memorable day for our town so I’m sure the children are excited to come along and play their part in starting the races.”
All of the winners will be invited along to the start/finish line of The Tour Series in the Old Town in Stevenage on Monday to flag away the elite men and women’s races.
Events will take place around the Old Town circuit from 10am on Monday 29th May, including the opportunity for everyone to ride on the 1-kilometre closed road course, plus youth, amateur and novice races between 10am and 3pm.  The promo zone will include community stalls plus stands from Tour partners such as HIGH5, Oakley and Dare2b selling Official Merchandise, while spectators can also make the most of free secure bike parking and a free service for their bikes if they cycle to the event.

The women’s Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series teams will take to the course twice, for a 2-lap Team Time Trial event 3pm followed by a circuit race at 5.30pm.  The men’s Tour Series race will get underway at 7.30pm, lasting for just over an hour to round out the 2017 Tour Series..
The Tour Series got underway at Redditch on Tuesday 9th May, with defending champions JLT Condor currently leading the way after five events in the men’s Series, while Drops lead the charge in the women’s championship.  The Series concludes in Stevenage on Bank Holiday Monday, 29th May.
Highlights of every round of The Tour Series are shown on ITV4, with programmes also be available on demand via the ITV Hub.  Action from the Stevenage grand final will be shown on ITV4 at 10pm on Tuesday 30th May.
