After a year’s absence, the OVO Energy Tour Series returns to the Welsh seaside town of Aberystwyth on Saturday (26 May), the seventh time in the event’s 10 editions that it has headed to the county of Ceredigion.

The 2018 series’ visit once again forms part of the Aber Cycle Fest, a celebration of cycling in Mid Wales that encompasses elite events, amateur races and rides for the whole family.

This year’s visit to Aberystwyth will also feature the first-ever Welsh round of the women’s series. Team Breeze, made up of British cycling stars of the future, go into the race two points ahead of the in-form NJC-Biemme-Echelon squad.

Aberystwyth first welcomed the OVO Energy Tour Series in 2011, with individual round winners in the seaside town including three-time Olympic champion Ed Clancy (2011, 2013, 2015)  and Welsh Commonwealth Games medalist Jon Mould.

However, Clancy and Mould’s JLT Condor team have work to do after a disappointing performance last time out in Durham on Tuesday. Madison Genesis, who last won the series in 2015, extended their lead at the top of the standings to four points at the halfway stage of this year’s event after a dominant display. Canyon Eisberg sit second, with JLT Condor third.
