Four lucky Redditch schools enjoyed visits from ‘home’ team MG Maxifuel last week, and the chance to ask questions of three of the elite racers.

Tour de France stage winner Magnus Backstedt was joined by MG Maxifuel teammates Joe Fox and Jamie Caldwell to visit four local schools ahead of the Redditch event, which takes place on Tuesday 4th June.

The riders visited Holyoakes First, Birchensale Middle, St Georges C.E. First and Kingsley College, answering questions from pupils and posing for photos.

Magnus talked about his career highlights which included his 1998 Tour de France stage victory and his win in the Paris – Roubaix Spring Classic. Pupils asked a variety of questions which ranged from the thrills of cycling and the equipment used.

The visit came the day Redditch was confirmed as also hosting a round of the women’s Johnson Health Tech Grand Prix Series event, also on the 4th June.

The Choose how you move backed event in Redditch town centre will see Britain’s top female racers in action in Round Three of their Series at 6pm, before the elite men’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series race gets underway at the slightly later start time of 7.30pm.

Activities on the day in the town centre run from 2pm through to the close of racing at 9pm.
