Eileen Roe and Team WNT put in a dominant performance in Motherwell to move back into second spot in the Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series behind leaders Drops. The team, and in particular Scottish duo Roe and Katie Archibald, dominated the event finishing first and third as Roe sealed back-to-back wins following the weekend’s race in Bath.

Both riders had shown their intentions early on with solo forays off the front of the bunch, but it was eventually Roe that made it stick, going clear with Annasley Park from leading team Drops, Breeze’s Manon Lloyd and Sunsport Velo rider Lizzie Banks.

The four built a lead of over half a minute, but a determined chase with a handful of laps to go from Katie Archibald brought Series individual leader Rebecca Durrell and Mel Lowther across to close the gap with a little over a lap remaining.

With her current storming form however Roe sprinted clear on the incline to the finish on Hamilton Road in Motherwell, repeating her win of 12-months previously, albeit with more time to celebrate and savour the victory, her sixth in the Matrix Fitness GP Series.

Behind her there was a photo-finish for second, with Durrell just pipping Archibald to the line by the narrowest of margins to help her extend her overall lead to almost 40-points over teammate Park.

Drops did however see their team lead marginally eroded, down to 50-points over both WNT and Breeze with just the double-header Stevenage round remaining on Bank Holiday Monday 29 May, at which the women’s teams will contest both a Team Time Trial event and the final circuit race of the Series.

Storey Racing’s Ejay Harris moved to within one-point of sealing the Eisberg Sprints Jersey, holding a nine-point lead over Durrell with just ten available in Stevenage, while Katie Archibald took the Brother Fastest Lap thanks to her super aggressive performance in North Lanarkshire.
