There is always time for cycling in and around Salisbury, which makes it the ideal host venue for the 2018 OVO Energy Tour Series Grand Final. As well as marking the first Wiltshire round in Series history, our visit to Salisbury will show the World that the city is open for business.

Salisbury is the perfect historic city in the countryside where walkers and cyclists can enjoy the breath-taking countryside finding new stories around every corner. The centre of Salisbury is relatively flat, with several cycle paths offering both on and off-road routes suitable for beginners through to the more advanced cyclist.

So, take a wander through time and follow in the footsteps of the Romans, Normans and Saxons who have all left their mark.

From Salisbury, cycle up the charming Woodford Valley to Stonehenge, stopping off at Amesbury along the way. Well worth a visit is Woodhenge – just to the north of Amesbury, a Neolithic site of concentric timber circles. Take time to enjoy the Stonehenge landscape which is all part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are enjoyable short bike rides from the city centre along the river path north towards Old Sarum or around the edges of the Cathedral Close, where there are also many attractions to visit. These include the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral with its 123m spire, amazing museums – The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum and The Salisbury Museum, plus National Trust’s Mompesson House and Arundells, the home of former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath.

For cyclists who prefer longer distance routes, National Cycle Way routes 24 and 45 both cross through the city, as does a section of the Wiltshire Cycle Way. Don’t forget to take your time and stop off at the many pubs, café’s and restaurants within easy reach of Sallisbury.

Riders can hire bikes from Hayball Bike Hire in Salisbury, while Stonehenge Cycles and Hayball Cyclesport offer repairs and servicing, and sell clothing.

Search here for accommodation providers in the area who make special provisions for cyclists such as secure storage for your bikes.

To help plan your routes, download a copy of the Salisbury Cycling Map provided by Connecting Wiltshire.

Salisbury is well connected and easily accessible – only 90 minutes from London Waterloo by train and on the main train line from the capital to Exeter.
