Freddie Scheske and Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK broke the stranglehold of Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes and Madison Genesis on the 2019 OVO Energy Tour Series during a memorable night of racing in Salisbury.

In front of huge crowds in Wiltshire, Scheske became the first German rider to win a round of the OVO Energy Tour Series, taking a solo victory by 23 seconds over team-mate Ed Clancy.

Second in Aberdeen last Thursday, Scheske broke away after 26 laps of racing around the Salisbury city centre circuit and never looked like being caught.

Clancy, the winner in Salisbury 12 months ago, led in the bunch behind Scheske, heading home Jacob Hennessy (Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes) and Madison Genesis duo Jon Mould and Richard Handley. A day after the birthday of team manager Cherie Pridham, Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK claimed their first team victory in series history.

Defending champions Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes pipped Madison Genesis to second in the night’s team result by just 0.517 seconds; the bulk of that tiny gap coming when Charles Page pipped Tom Moses to 10th on the line by 0.325s.

The result leaves Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes one point clear of Madison Genesis heading to the final round at Brooklands, with Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK seven points further back.

In the women’s OVO Energy Tour Series Rebecca Durrell edged her Brother UK – Tifosi p/b OnForm team closer to their maiden overall title with her second race win of the week, just ahead of Team Breeze rider Rhona Callander.

Callander’s Breeze team-mate Jess Roberts was third, but strong performances from Gabriella Shaw and Charmaine Porter in fourth and fifth means that Brother UK – Tifosi p/b OnForm sit three points clear and just need to finish in the top four at Brooklands to claim the women’s title.

Grand Final

The final round of the men’s and women’s OVO Energy Tour Series takes place at the famous Brooklands location in Elmbridge, Surrey, where the first mass start cycle races took place in 1907, on Saturday (25 May).
